The number of Morrissey biographies has multiplied in recent years, with the above tomes joined by Len Brown’s Meetings with Morrissey (Music Sales, 2008), Simon Godard’s The Smiths: Songs That Saved Your Life (Reynolds & Hearn, 2006), Paul Wood’s Morrissey in Conversation (Plexus, 2007), and Johnny Rogan’s Morrissey (Rogan, 2007).

Bret, David. Morrissey: Scandal and Passion. Anova. 2007. 312p. ISBN 978-1-86105-968-0. pap. $12.50.
Morrissey partisan and Edith Piaf biographer Bret does his able best to get to the man behind the music. Morrissey makes certain that he fails, of course, but what does emerge is a well-researched and engaging portrait of a complex figure.
Simpson, Mark. Saint Morrissey: A Portrait of This Charming Man by an Alarming Fan. S. & S. 2005. 272p. ISBN 978-0-7432-8481-3. pap. $14.
Heavily subjective "psycho-bio" by superfan Simpson that speaks infinitely more about how Morrissey’s life and art affected Simpson than about the man himself. A light, occasionally funny read most useful as a tool to understand the intensity of Morrissey fandom.
DVD

Passions Just Like Mine (passionsjustlikemine.com)
Simple both graphically and thematically, this fansite gets it right where many others go wrong. It’s an impressive fan-generated discography of Morrissey’s work—both solo and with The Smiths—official and (ahem) bootleg. Best of all? There are two different classes of discography, one for the seasoned fan and one for the neophyte.
Morrissey-Solo (www.morrissey-solo.com)
The most active hub of Morrissey-related fan chatter on the Internet. The site hosts daily updates on his activity, up-to-the-minute tour reports and concert reviews, media recaps, album release info, and busy, busy forums. Owing to Morrissey’s general distrust of and reticence in speaking to journalists, no book has really been able to capture the whole story objectively. For the moment, then, it’s best to go online, where a thriving fan community keeps tabs on Morrissey’s every move and sound.
