ALA 2010: Plenty of Inspiration in the Top Innovations Awards from Urban Libraries Council

Twelve library projects were given the nod as the 2010 Top Innovations identified by the Urban Libraries Council. The inaugural awards, given during the organization's membership meeting held Saturday morning across town from the American Library Association annual conference, were selected from 221 member submissions. Each inspiring in its own way, the projects prove just how relevant and essential public libraries
are. The winners were:

Brooklyn (NY) Public Library's Today's Teens, Tomorow's Techies (T4) volunteer program

Calgary Public Library's It's a Crime Not To Read literacy partnership with police, schools, and other community anchors

Cleveland Public Library's Integrated Data Tracking System, accomplished with a centralized SQL database

Columbus (OH) Metropolitan Library's trim in technical services turnaround time from three weeks to 1.5 days

Cuyahoga County (OH) Public Library's Renew By Text mobile service option

Hartford (CT) Public Library's comprehensive community resource Hartfordinfo.org

Houston Public Library's HPL Express tech branches:

Johnson County (KS) Library's GovFest for Entrepreneurs workforce development event

King County (WA) Library System's Look to Your Library job resource campaign

Orange County (FL) Library System's delivery of service via OCLS Mobile

Queens (NY) Library's Queens Library Queens Library Healthlink Cancer Action Centers

San Francisco Public Library's Green Stacks enviromental awareness resource program
