Oxford University Press Offers Mobile-Optimized Websites for Journal Content
By Michael Kelley Sep 6, 2011Oxford University Press announced September 1 that all Oxford journals will have a mobile-optimized version of their full journal website that can be accessed via multiple mobile devices.
"Mobile-optimized websites for our journals allow academics, students, and researchers to access the content they need from virtually anywhere via their smartphones," said Charlotte Capanni, head of Academic Journals Marketing at Oxford University Press, in a press release. "Mobile optimization also enables users to look up a reference quickly or access the latest articles published in their favorite journal."
The more than 250 mobile websites will be powered by the HighWire Press electronic publishing platform
After logging in through an institution's WiFi service, users can access that institution's subscriptions; individual subscribers will be able to access subscriptions through username and password authentication. The mobile-optimized sites support iOS (iPhone and iPod Touch), BlackBerry OS, and Android smartphones. Support for Symbian OS and Windows Mobile is in development.
The interface allows viewing of current and archived content. It also has a search page and permits email forwarding
